The Labyrinth - A Personal Story
In the year 2001, I traveled to France to walk the largest and oldest labyrinth in the world. I fell in love with the town. The architectural details of the buildings, close proximity of houses and marvelous daily markets offered a taste of that old world. I envisioned a time where everything slowed down. I took a deep breath...
As I sat in contemplation before walking the labyrinth, I held a stone I would place in the center. At the time, I was a Vice-President of a Human Resources Consulting firm and searching for a new model of leadership both personally and professionally.
I had not walked a labyrinth before, and was told you walk it alone. There is only one path to the center, which metaphorically represents a journey to one's center, one's inner core self where the truth unfolds. I was so grateful I would not lose my way (since I am directionally challenged) I took the first step. Somehow I knew there was no going back, I was ready to discover my truth.
This journey within is the beginning of much reflection for what is and what can be. I realized how grateful I am for my best teacher, my dad. With grace and tremendous compassion, he has overcome what most of us would consider insurmountable obstacles in his childhood. He worked with great loyalty in a less than favorable manufacturing environment to support my mother and four siblings. Dad decided to pursue his passion in real estate, only to work two jobs.
My dad taught me how to walk my talk with authenticity, integrity and grace. Because of his model of working and raising a family, I learned that work could be different. From his lifestyle was born my passion for a new way of being, living and working.
I took another step. I gained clarity that it is time now to walk my own talk, to become a new model of leadership. To use my gifts in service to others so they can become leaders in their own lives. My vision was born of a world where people define success based on their own terms by becoming leaders in their own lives. Leaders in their own lives go on to build emotionally intelligent organizations that transform the way we work. My dad has survived two heart attacks. Those "gifts of the heart" taught us to live life today with gratefulness for what we have. Those who have lost loved ones from 9/11 know that the time to start living your best life is NOW. Thus, I founded Labyrinth Professional Coaching.
